  1. but is this writing just an endless flow of words or sounds or whatnot? both? and if it's just endless how do sciences happen then?
  2. If it is possible to explain it briefly (I don't have much timehere right now), I understand that grammatology is about writing and difference. I know Derrida tries to get rid of the distinction between speech and writing (because Western philosophy privileges speech over writing), so I think that's the basis of grammatology? I'm not as familiar with Derrida as I should be, as I find him somewhat irritating.
  3. It's okay i guess but there are some colour issues that need to get sorted, like the grey text and even the grey widget to the left of this reply window - the one between the window and my avatar. And i believe chacheng is right: sometimes it's a bit of blue overload...but maybe I'll get used to it. I did have to get used to the first theme too.
  4. Personally, I wouldn't bother with either IE or Microsoft Edge. Microsoft seems to think that their browsers are the best because they're packaged with Windows but everyone else has just left them behind.
  5. yeah, it took me a while to get the hang of that. Just remember one thing: try clicking on everything on a screen to see what happens
  6. I think it says that most of life is nothing more than a competition as to who can say it better. A piscine contest, if you will.

  11. i was reading an interesting article from Paul McGeogh in TheAge: http://www.theage.com.au/world/what-the-internet-did-for-journalism-donald-trump-is-doing-for-political-reality-20161206-gt4vbk.html and there were some interesting comments about the new(?) relativity of truth: so apparently truth is a dog's breakfast...we can't even be expected to listen to what political leaders say anymore
  12. Ok so I came across this quote whilst reading Nietzsche, and am not sure I can make sense of it: "I am afraid that we have not got rid of God because we still have faith in grammar" (in Twilight of the Idols) Discuss?
  13. All of this makes perfect sense but i can't help thinking it's a sad, sad time for humanity when we have to strategize like this..
  14. Part of me thought the same...until I saw 2012. He should have stayed outside that bedroom window with the boom-box..

  18. Hey Gord...for some reason I can't give forums topics a star rating.

Hello, I've known Gord for quite some time now - old York University alum veterans . I am currently absorbed in my personal philosophical readings (Schopenhauer and Nietzsche), working a thankless job and trying to make sense out of a world that seems to be going madder by the year.
