  1. Well our transition month is September.  There's a 21st century saying that if you really want to know what someone is really like, watch how they react to the internet being down. My poor wife 😐

  2. I remember a couple of interesting buildings in Toronto (some residences as that mutant growth on ROM) but apart from that I found Toronto kinda dull.

Melbourne on the other hand has some great architecture on Swanston north tut toward UniMelb and I always enjoy walking around there .

  3. Hmm...well, not tech savvy in this respect but we go with IPVanish here.  Sometimes the servers cut out but the service is generally reliable.

As with so many Internet-related things, I think the best thing to do is go with reviews.

  4. You know I actually wasn't expecting much from the first Deadpool movie...wasn't particularly in the mood for it as I am exhausted by superhero movies and their superficial plots and over-reliance on special effects and big shiny things flying through the air etc. etc.

But Deadpool was brilliant!  It was one of those movies that actually got me in the mood to watch more the more I saw it.  Very rare for a movie for me these days.  Rarer still a superhero movie with personality!

  5. Hmm....right you are!  I've had some issues with setting text and menu colours since the theme upgrade - namely, that one text colour setting is used across different parts of the site so that changing it corrects visibility in one area whilst making it worse in another. 🙄

However, the designer - who is very good at listening to feedback and requests - is on the case and I hope to have it fixed soon.

  6. Thanks for your honest opinion.  I'll probably keep them - not because I disagree with you, but because emojis are, like it or not, one (or many) of those things to be reckoned with.

    In the meantime.....

  7. Sorry for the lapse lately folks...apparently Optus (or Telstra?  They seem to own the infrastructure) are unable to fix a certain tower due east of me, which has been wreaking havoc on my internet connectivity of late.

Hopefully things have been resolved by now, although my wife tells me a story of someone whose Internet was out for two weeks while they "implemented" the NBN in his area. O.o  I hope this has nothing to do with the NBN (which is currently being extended to my street here in Frankston), but who knows these days, in an era of phone menus, "live chat" which never connects, and an overall illusion of customer service?

(And yes, I get a bit cranky without my Internet....)

  8. Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give a warm welcome to our newest member: @rhlangan, a colleague of mine from the Holism conference who has kindly opted to join our eclectic little circle.  rhlangan does work in Jung, Deleuze and Spinoza, and you can find the abstract of his conference paper in the Holism blog abstracts attachment.

    Welcome again!

And are you going to post your work or is that illegal?

Nope, perfectly legal.  I had to sign my dissertation over to the Canadian archives and dissertation repository, but I retain copyright.  Besides - anyone can download it for free from Western's repository, so there's no reason why I can't post it here.  Stay tuned!

  11. HI Marjorie,

This has actually been discussed recently in the development forums.  Apparently there's an issue with inconsistent coding in terms of how certain site content is wrapped in page styles; it's an ongoing discussion and the software developers are aware of the issue.  It should be fixed before too long. :)

  12. ...because they didn't read the terms:

    Highlights:

In a blog post on its site, a Purple spokesperson explains that the agreement requires users to do any of the following, at Purple's discretion:

    • Cleansing local parks of animal waste
    • Providing hugs to stray cats and dogs
    • Manually relieving sewer blockages
    • Cleaning portable lavatories at local festivals and events
    • Painting snail shells to brighten up their existence
    • Scraping chewing gum off the streets

There was also a prize offer for anyone who contacted the company and pointed out the clause. Only one person received a prize.

  13. I'm still ironing out some issues and checking out how they work, but yes, I see no reason why we can't allow others here to make Spaces.  I just have 50 things on my mind right now with the impending trip so we'll see what happens. :)

  14. LOL lotta that going around these days xD.

I'm in the middle of getting my conference paper together, and will be out of the country for a while (I'll post an announcement shortly), but after I return all will be made clear and I will have a cornucopia of answers for all!

  15. Yeah, I switched out the default images with stuff I thought was more appropriately nerdy and fancy. ;)

Maybe we should run contests for best background?  Best background(s) get saved in a gallery and put up for a month or something?

    Thoughts?
